Fighting Fantazine #8
Issue #8 of “Fighting Fantazine” is now available to download from the website!
2 New Adventures
A Handful of Dust by Zachary Carango is now available to play in the Hosted adventures section – most significantly this is the first fully encoded non-Fighting Fantasy rules adventure. Also The Dead World by Ulysses Ai has been published as a turn-to only adventure. Enjoy 🙂
3 New Adventures & Revenge of the UTF8 bug
3 New adventures have been published, Debacle at Dead Mans Inn and Isle of the Cyclops by Andrew Wright, and The Golden Crate by Ulysses Ai. Debacle is fully encoded while Cyclops and Crate are at this stage Turn-To only. Also it seems the utf-8 character encoding issues which I thought to be banished are still maing themselves a pain in the arse in one adventure at least, sorry.
The Cold Heart of Chaos published
A new adventure, ‘The Cold Heart of Chaos‘ written by Al Sander has been encoded and published to play as a fully interactive adventure. The usual HTML version and Flowchart graph is also available to view on the information page as well as the source documents. The whole process took 1 day using the ABML system and tools avaialable here at fightingfantasy.org.
UTF-8 Finally…
The ongoing battle for utf-8 compliance seems to be near an end. The litter of microsft cp1252 characters left strewn throughout legacy adventure references (giving rise to the \x93 marks etc.) have been cleared up thanks to some help from stackoverflow.com. There are stil occasional but thankfully very infrequent anomolies left. All newly created references are saved and loaded in utf-8 in the editors, hopefully that will be an end to the whole poxy business.
New tag, new attribute for tti tag, and tti tag fixed
There is a new ‘tts’ tag enabling you to calculate your reference destinations with script data (SEL here). The tti tag has also been expanded with this functionality with the addition of a new attribute, see the ABML reference for details on both additions. Also tti was broken unbeknownst to me due to my most recent major changes (the bookamrk attributes etc.) this has now been fixed. Lastly the SEL @argv array has been expanded see SEL constants and variables for details.
Incomplete adventures published
Previously unpublished adventures (due to lack of completeness) have been made available to play at their current turn-to state for those that may be curious about development. The associated GraphViz files, HTML versions, and source documents are also available as downloads in the Hosted Gamebooks Information page
New Tag Attributes
The <tt> family of links (<tt>, <tti> and <rtt>) have been significantly updated with new attributes and an alteration to the enforce attribute. Please see the reference for details, also note there is a new @argv data array for SEL making the current reference available to SEL code, see SEL Variables and constants for details.
Books reverted
All book references have been reverted to 13th October. Anybody writing their own book at this time is advised to make regular backups of their work as I will be attempting legacy file utf8 conversion again at some point.
